Finnsecurity-paja 15.6.2026, ”Evolving Threats of Modern Islamism in Europe”, Vallila, Helsinki
Finnsecurity ry järjestää yhteistyössä Varmuus, turvallisuus & johtaminen -verkoston kanssa Finnsecurity-pajan maanantaina 15.6.2026 klo 16–18 otsikolla ”Evolving Threats of Modern Islamism in Europe”.
Modern Islamism and Salafi reformism have assumed new forms within the evolving landscape of radicalisation and resistance in Europe. The conceptualisation and adaptation of these reformist movements have enabled Islamist actors to position themselves more effectively within contemporary socio-political environments, strengthening their ideological influence and organisational reach. Through increasingly sophisticated support structures, digital platforms, and transnational networks, Islamist movements have expanded their capacity to disseminate and propagate radical ideological belief systems across diverse communities. This evolution has not only transformed methods of recruitment and mobilisation, but has also complicated efforts by European states and institutions to counter extremist narratives and prevent radicalisation.
What are these and how do we address these issues?
Andrin Raj is the Director of the Nordic Counter Terrorism Network in Finland and serves as the Southeast Asia Regional Director for the International Association for Counterterrorism and Security Professionals (IACSP). He is currently an Adviser to the Federal Government of Somalia on the Prevention and Countering of Violent Extremism (PCVE). He has trained Special Forces personnel and delivered briefings to War and Defence Colleges in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and across Asia on counterterrorism and security-related issues. He currently serves as a subject matter expert with the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL), where he conducts counterterrorism workshops for law enforcement agencies throughout the European Union. He is also affiliated with the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention and Countering of Violent Extremism (PCVE). He has also served as a subject matter expert for the U.S. Department of Justice, delivering counterterrorism training programs for law enforcement agencies across Southeast Asia.
